5 Pet Hair Removal Hacks

Pets are a staple of Western culture. We treat our pets like they are part of our family, but unlike your son or daughter, they really aren’t able to clean up after themselves. Growing up I owned a German Shepard who was the pride of the family. But nothing was more annoying than the hair that he shed. Day after day my family would sweep and vacuum the house because hair was everywhere. Removing hair isn’t easy. If you have exhausted options like a vacuum or a lint roller, we might have some tricks that could help.

Squeegee (Of course!)

I realize not everyone has a squeegee, but they really are a handy tool. Not only are they perfect for cleaning windows and shower doors, but they make excellent pet hair removers. The rubber pulls the fibers apart, allowing the hair to come to the surface. This makes it much easier to vacuum up or even pick up by hand.

Rubber Glove

This might be the easiest solution because almost everyone has a rubber glove. Whether they are disposable or used every day for dishes, a rubber glove will easily pick up pet hair. The glove is effective for a few reasons. Rubber can build up static electricity which will attract the hair and just like squeegee can force the fibers of your carpet or couch apart.

Balloon

A deflated balloon is similar to a glove. Put your hand in the balloon and rub along the fabric. I like this approach better than a rubber glove because balloons tend to be coarser. Balloons are also great conductors of static electricity. Who hasn’t made their hair stand up using a balloon?

Duct Tape

Some blogs tell you to use packing tape or masking tape, but these tapes are no different than a lint roller. If you really want to get rid of the hair, use duct tape. Duct tape is extremely sticky and it is also durable. Just wrap some duct tape around your hand, sticky side out, and remove dog hair.

Dryer Sheets

That’s right, dryer sheets are for more than making your clothes smell fresh. Though they’re designed to reduce static cling, dryer sheets will actually magnetize unwanted hair. Simply running a dryer sheet over a furry surface should help remove most of the annoying hair.

These are just a few examples that we found to work. A helpful idea for fighting the battle against pet hair is starting at the root of the problem. Getting your pet groomed on a regular basis can eliminate some of the hair. A daily or weekly brushing is also beneficial. Also, check with your vet to find out what is the best food to buy for your pet. Sometimes diet is a main factor in increased shedding. Some breeds of dog or cat are just going to shed no matter what you do. If that’s the case… use our hacks!
