How to Clean the Glass on the Oven Door

hand cleaning inside of oven door.
Every year around the holidays, our kitchens take a beating. If you have ever hosted Thanksgiving, you know exactly what I’m talking about… and no other appliance gets it worse than our poor ovens. If your oven’s door glass is looking greasy and foggy – never fear! We want to share some of our favorite ways to get that glass crystal clear again:

For newer, more mild forms of staining or build-up, the classic baking soda and vinegar mixture is a good bet. This is our favorite, most highly recommended method because it’s safe and easy, and you probably already have the ingredients in your cabinet! Simply open your oven door, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the glass, and spray some white vinegar over the baking soda. Let the bubbling, paste-like mixture set for about 15-20 minutes before scrubbing with a soft sponge. Simply rinse and wipe away with a wet paper towel until the baking soda is gone. Voila!

For a more caked-on mess, you might have to bring in the big guns. Of course, it’s not ideal to use harsh chemicals, especially in/near the appliances you cook your food in – but hey, sometimes it’s necessary! Combining a great, heavy-duty oven cleaner with the right steel wool pad will likely do the trick. Be sure you use 0000 steel wool or any type that indicates it’s safe to use on glass. The “trick” here is that oftentimes, the good oven cleaners include a step in the directions that many overlook – heating your oven on a low temperature so that the glass is warm but not hot. This creates an ideal surface for the cleaner to work its magic – so don’t skip that step! Again, be sure to rinse and wipe away any remaining cleaner thoroughly.
